Tag Registration and Renewal

Florida uses a metal license plate with a combination of letters and numbers. The license plate is displayed on the rear of the vehicle with the exception of certain commercial vehicles. The metal plate is issued to the owner for ten years and replaced during the tenth year.

Proof of insurance (binder, policy, or card) from a certified Florida agent is required to purchase and renew a license plate in Florida. The vehicle owner must present proof of insurance at the time of registration or renewal. The policy must meet Florida insurance minimum requirements.

Vehicles are registered on a staggered basis according to the registered owner's birth month. The registration expires at midnight on the owner's birthday.

The exceptions are:

Company owned vehicles: most vehicles expire June 30th and trucks over 5000 lbs expire December 31st
Truck-tractors, semi-trailers, and trucks weighing over 8,000 pounds expire December 31st
Mobile home general decals expire December 31st.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES

Annual license taxes, for the operation of motor vehicles is defined by Florida Statutes, and must be paid at the time of registration and renewal. All fees are subject to change by Legislative Act. *Please note vehicles with license plates transferred between weight classes may be subject to initial registration fees. If there is a transfer of ownership, title transfer fees will apply.
